Islamabad: Pakistan has banned the telecast of IPL matches in its country. The decision was finalized at the cabinet meeting led by PM Imran Khan. After the meeting, Pakistan Information minister Fawad Chaudhry confirmed that hereafter the country will not broadcast IPL matches.
The minister said that earlier PM Khan led government opined that cultural difference should not manifest in sports and cultural activities. He said, “The Indian broadcaster pulled out of the Pakistan Super League in the middle of the tournament. The Ministry of Information requested the Federal Cabinet to ban the IPL, as India tried to cause damage to our tournament in an organized way”.
He added, “We think that political differences should not interfere with sport and cultural activities. But we saw that limits were crossed when the Indian team played their match wearing army caps”.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority would maintain that IPL is not broadcast in the country.
