Congress files complaint against Biplab Deb, asks arrest

Agartala: The Tripura unit of the Congress party has filed a complaint against the CM Biplab Kumar Deb for spreading communal hatred in the state. The party has approached the Election Commission for immediate action against the CM.

The complaint was filed by Tripura Pradesh Congress vice-president Tapas Dey filed the complaint on Friday with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti. The CEO has also confirmed that a complaint has been received against the CM. “Our party has urged the CEO to register an FIR against Deb for his immediate detention to judicial custody”, said Dey.

Mr. Dey also accused the BJP activists of intimidating voters against approaching polling stations and attacking workers and candidates. Meanwhile BJP spokesperson Nabenduu Bhattacharya refuted the claims and said, “This phrase raised by Deb Burman had communal hints. Let EC investigate the truth, and then everything would be clear to the people”.

He also said that the earlier slogans of AICC, “Poila Jati, Ulo Party (caste is first and then political parties)” — in indigenous Kokbarak language, also had the hues of communal hatred.
