PUNE: Chennaiyins FC tasted their first victory of this season with a convincing victory of 4-2 against FC Pune City in Indian Super League. The match took place on Tuesday at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune. Though Ashique Kuruniyan’s early goal had given an earlier lead for Pune, the second half favored Chennaiyans. The second half allowed John Greggory’s men to score three points ahead.
Malilson Alves equalized a header in the 53 rd minute. Gregory Nelson made a comeback two minutes later. Inigo Calderon and Thoi Singh also helped increase the lead. Jonathan Vila’s late goal sealed the victory. Marcelinho was given marching orders after his dangerous tackle stint on Germanpreet Singh. Diego Carlos De Oliveira also remains suspended for his tackle stunt against FC Goa.
John Greggory’s team had the ball for the majority of time. Chennaiyans scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute. Martin Diaz fouled Anirud Thapa.
The champions took the lead two minutes after. They doubled their lead in the 69th minute from Thapa’s corner kick.
Pune goaled in the 90th minute. However, they couldn’t take the lead further. Pune is at the bottom of league with their defeat yesterday.
Chennaiyans moved to eighth position winning four points from seven matches.
